2 women die in Khulna

Two women in Khulna city died on Thursday night from food poisoning allegedly after having snacks at a food shop. Nilufar Yasmin Rupa, 30, and her younger sister Rukaiya Zaman Mukta, 28, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), hours after they were admitted. Emergency Medical Officer Gautam Kumar Mukherjee told The Daily Star that Rupa died at 10:00pm while Mukta at 11:00pm after profuse by vomiting. Both reportedly had taken snacks and energy drinks from a bakery shop in Sonadanga residential area in the city. The bodies were taken to Mongla for burial after autopsies at the KMCH morgue. A general diary was filed yesterday with Sonadanga Police Station. Rupa's husband Md Jashimuddin, Mongla correspondent of Bengali daily Destiny and Baishakhi TV, said the two sisters had taken foods from a bakery shop around 7:30pm and his two children were also with them. Neither of the family members nor the police could identify the shop till filing of the report at 7:00pm.
